My grandfather was told by his doctor he needed to find a drier climate than Michigan had for his health. He headed west with his son on a mission to find a place to start a new life with his family. This is one of the letters he sent to my grandmother about that trip. I found it in a box of letters that l brought home with me after my father died. In this day of e-mail and texts l wonder if future generations will be able to find something like this to treasure or has that become a thing of the past?
This is such a treasure to find, Katy and a wonderful photo. It does make one wonder what our kids will leave behind or even us. Have kept notes from my Mom just because they are in her writing. I bought her a book to write in about her life but she did not want to write in it at all. FAV
A real treasure. I feel that in the future our kids and grandchildren won't have such memories. Photos aren't printed, letters are now in email and all disposable.
Sadly I am finding in my adult children the viewpoint that this type of memorabilia takes up too much space. I have notes and letters written by grandparents and parents that I think they will just toss when I'm gone. So sad...
What a treasure. So interesting how little notes like these bring out so much of the family heritage. I love that many in your family loved to write Katy.
So sad to think that future generations won't have these sort of memories. I have tons of little odds and ends but doubt anyone will ever read or look at them. Lovely nostalgic moment you have captured.
and that is why i spent the whole day going through a literally room-ful of boxes and i didn't get anywhere. so i just labelled them with a promise to re-visit and trim them once i've moved. so much memories which ones do we discard????
Treasure! Ohhhhh delightful, absolutely nothing better, So lovely to hold the paper in your hands and to imagine then sitting to rite, that's not quite going to work for email is it?!

@eudora they moved from Michigan to Washington state which is where I was born and raised. this was actually my mom's father and after he moved his family out there my mom and dad who were already married followed them
