Sorting through some things today to help keep me from being a TOTAL hoarder. This is the party hat l had to wear on my birthday for my exercise class. At the end of the day (a phrase a very dear friend uses ALL the time♥) I still can't throw it out!
I completely understand! I’m contemplating a move where I will have to cut my living space in half and still cannot bear to give up some items. I’m being as brutal as I can in my purging. It’s funny how we attach such emotions to silly “things”
Ha ha! I have many “at the end of the day” items. I’m hopeless I’m afraid. There will be another party you can wear the hat to and you will be glad you have it!
I continually go back to things I couldn't let go the first time and say to myself, "So how much did you use this, touch this, or "play" with it from the time you first said, oh I'll keep it just a little while longer..." Yup, it's a lot easier to let it go the second time around when I realize it wasn't THAT special! And some things I take a picture of just for the memory and say "bye bye"! That helps too. Now I'm trying to decide just how much of the good things I've inherited from my family, but seem to not be appealing to my children should be redirected to my nieces or sold to collectors who will value them as I do. That's the hardest kind of purging for this sentimental gal!
My parents couldn't throw anything away. They used to bring me food that I had to toss as soon as they left. Now they are gone, and it's me that can't throw anything away. Of course when I do toss something. it seems not two weeks go by and I find I need what I tossed. >_
@lulaharp thanks for your empathy @louannwarren LOL! you are probably right @maggiemae you know me too well @Dawn well I think that is why l am a borderline hoarder! @ludwigsdiana I thik that is a great idea but l seem unable to do it! @30pics4jackiesdiamond that has happened to me too mny times to count. I recommend what @francoise said. Once you gove it all to them they will keep what is important and toss the rest. @olivetreeann I do that sometimes but seldom take a picture of it. I struggle with knowing that although it might not be wanted now it MAY be in a few more years especially with reference to my children. Things they didn't want when l asked ten years ago they now wish I had to give to them. @henrir exactly my point Henri! So glad you saw that @bill_fe We DO become our parents as we age. and of course we always need it once it is gone whatever it was! @wyomingsis I know you recognize the struggle! to you only will I confess that some of it is just plain laziness! @mcsiegle I am iin good company!
It takes waaaaay too much energy to overcome inertia! Objects at rest... Which is why I have "scary rooms"!! The mess is frightening and I am too scared to start the sorting!! Perhaps we inherited this problem? 🤔
