If you look closely you can see my granddaughter in front of the roots of a tree uprooted by the hurricane that went through our town. That tree was probably 80 feet tall
Wicked winds with this storm. The roots of these trees are long. I think the strange weather over the past several years has weakened our trees, though, making them more susceptible to the vagaries of the weather.

Unlike a tornado that twists as it blows a hurricane is just a straight force wind and it is a little unusual for them to have this much power 150miles/240 kilometers inland. The rain may have softened the ground making it easier for the 40-60 MPH/64-96 KPH winds to uproot this tree but it still took a strong gust to do it. Thank you for all your comments
