18 Years Later

The Grand Chap bought me a car for Christmas 18 years ago. It has been through a lot. The radio no longer works, the sun visor is constantly down, the power steering went out years ago,and it leaks in almost every heavy rain but it still gets me where I need to be and has less than 100,000 miles on it. I plan to replace it in two years.
It would be like an old friend - know the not so good parts but appreciate the good parts!

That steering must give you quite a workout. When things break on my cars it’s usually something that is so major it isn’t worth spending money on. Hope it gets you where you need to go.

Way to go! We keep cars as long as we can.

A great shot of your old faithful, hope it gets you there and back for the next few years too.

You sure will appreciate your new one in a few years

They don't make em like that anymore!!!

I am too spoiled to put up with that in a car. Good for you.

With age comes the risk of leaks!

It will be like saying goodbye to an old friend when you do replace it. You should treat it to a couple of cross-continent road trips before you do!

Wow - that is a well made vehicle.

@maggiemae exactly right Maggiemae
@shutterbug49 that workout is actually one of the reasons it isn't fixed yet Debbie. It does get me where I need to go in spite of all that
@eudora Thanks Diane Function over form for me and you too it sounds like
@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana I feel it will with a little TLC
@kjarn I would be lying if I said I am not looking forward to it
@briaan So nice of you Brian I hope all is well with you and Judy
@Dawn I am happy you like it Dawn
@30pics4jackiesdiamond I know that is right!
@joansmor Most of it could be fixed but I am too cheap to spend the money!
@wakelys LOL Right?! In cars AND people
@mcsiegle It will be but I worry about it being able to make that any more
@linnypinny That is arguable but it has lasted a long time

My car is 12 years old, has over 100,000 miles. I want to be able to get in it and go anytime I want. So the working parts still work. Glad that's not the vehicle you depend on for everything.

You are not a spoiled woman.

It sounds like the Buick that my friend JoAnn had for over 25 years. She bought when she landed her first job and her father said she had purchased a clunker (it was not used- it was new!), that she was stupid and when it broke down he would not help her replace it (well, he hadn't helped purchase it in the first place!). She took good care of that car and just to prove he was wrong (even long after he was gone) she repaired it every time it needed something. Her mechanic finally refused to fix it because he could no longer guarantee the parts! Sounds to me your car is as faithful and trustworthy as hers was, at least for what you need it for.

@randystreat this is actually the only vehicle I drive Kathy. It gets me where I need to go but wouldn't wnat to be more than a few hours away from home with it anymore
@tunia LOL definitely NOT Tunia
@olivetreeann at this point I feel the cost of repairs would be less than the expense of a new one and that is what keeps me in it. My mechaninc hasn't refused to fix mine yet but it is getting there and until then it has been very good to me
