I had actually chosen another subject for this album tonight but I forgot the One Night Stand challenge of cuisine/culture. In light of my recent trip to Beirut and the gracious hospitality of @ruthmouch I decided on Lebanese cuisine! Hummus is a Mediterranean food that is very healthy and simple to make and I rediscovered how much I liked it while in Lebanon where it seems to be a staple. Now I make my own.
I love hummus, and even better if it's home-made like yours. And I guess it would even be better with those toasted pine nuts that @ruthmouch just collected. Your still life is excellent. Love it.
@anazad511 Thank you Ana! I just realized I forgot to show the tahini which is essential! Hummus is very good to eat with carrot sticks and on pita bread! How do you eat it?
@grammyn I didn't dare to ask about the tahini thinking it was another way to prepare it. I love to sprinkle some paprika, roasted pine nuts, and olive oil, and serve them with warm pita bread plus a variety of crunchy veggies in sticks (carrots, celery, radishes, red peppers, and cherry tomatoes)
Nice composition! I make my own hummus too! I love traditional, but with more garlic! I've made black bean hummus which is good too. I serve with pita bread, kalamata olives, red onions, feta cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
@smithak 3 cloves of garlic
2 15 oz cans of garbanzo beans (chick peas)
1 C olive oil
1 C tahini
3 lemons, juiced
salt
chop garlic in food processor and add drained beans (save the juice)
blend together into a paste
add remaining ingredients, blending until smooth
used reserved juice as needed for a smoother consistency
I like garlic so I actually added a little more but that is a preference. As with all recipes work it around until you find what you like best. Enjoy
Ooh... thanks for posting the recipe. I love your still life shot, and of course didn't notice anything missing! I have had hummus I like and some-us I didn't... bad pun! I may even try making my own since it looks pretty easy.
@grammyn I know, but I love it! It is one of the few "creamy" comfort food kind of things I can eat. My first year of suffering so much with the stomach pain, etc.. I somehow tried garbanzos...maybe on a salad bar at school. Noticed they were comforting and unlike most things I ate, filled me up, stopped my stomach ache, stopped the hunger. So I would just eat them plain for breakfast. haha! Then I got hooked on hummus later..
@ruthmouch ♥ you know you are the inspiration for venturing into these new culinary areas. Some of the credit goes to Gracie too, of course! I keep hearing her say. " It is easy!" thanks for all your kind words, Ruth!
