I am grateful for Ripken, my mom's neighbor's dog, whom I have loved since they adopted him 12 or so years ago and he became best friends with our previous dog, Stella -- the two yards are connected so they can run back and forth. He is now rather senile and curmudgeonly, but I still like it when he comes to chill in the dog crate in our living room.
