8.54 pm: There was some huge Christmas shopping going on in the centre of The Hague when I went for a walk during my late shift. A lot of it was done in this building, that houses the upscale department store De Bijenkorf. When it opened in 1925 it was referred to as The Palace of the Joy of Living, hence the title of this shot.
This was my last late shift of 2012. I am off work now for two whole weeks. Christmas break has never been more welcome - I am exhausted. This last trimester at work has been crazy and my children (the youngest in particular) have been sick on and off since mid October. It's been quite difficult to juggle work and home responsibilities the past couple of months.
Hurrah!! Two weeks should help! I sympathise - I remember the juggling well & the constant guilt is wearing. I gave up working for other people when my youngest was 7 (just in time before he started a really bad run of illness) and now he criticises me for lack of ambition - there is no answer so you can only do your best!! Cracking photo!
great shot of the Bijenkorf - it's such a fabulous building and the lights are fabulous. Hurrah for your 2 week break - it's such a great feeling knowing you can really put your feet up from work and enjoy spending time with your family - hope you ahve a fantastic Christmas Judith
