I was recently in New York City on vacation. On one of the days I wanted to go to a bike shop in Brooklyn. I had the address and mapped put where to go, first by subway then a walk of a few blocks. I had not been to this section of the city and did not know what to expect, but that is the fun of a vacation, discovery.
The subway ride was uneventful and I exited the station. I got myself oriented and began my walk. I was in a rougher part of town than where I was staying in Williamsburg, but did not feel exposed or vulnerable. The further I got the rougher the neighborhood became. I passed by a video/CD rental shop that is a walkup only and just a few feet deep. A small hole to pass a few bucks is surrounded by latice work of bars. Hmmm I thought I'm not in the suburbs anymore.
As I continued to walk I heard some clucking and scratching. Here in the middle of it all, concrete, brick and more signs telling you what not to do than anything else was a small chicked coop taking up the small front yard of just a few square feet. A couple of thin chickens missing a few feathers were going about thier business. Those are one tough birds I thought to myself. The owner was cleaning up a bit, I nodded and smiled knowing that there is nothing like a hearty breakfast made with fresh eggs.
There is only one local grocery that has cartons of 8, I do not think it is too common. Most groceries stock both 12 and 6 packs. Glad you noticed, I 'm used to them and did not think twice about it.
