I proudly admit that I am a fan of the lowly donut (doughnut). Just a bit of fried dough and usually dipped in something sweet.
In my eternal search for a better shop, I will step in take a look into the case and ask what's the specialty?
What happens next is what makes all the difference. A good shop will tell you what they are known for and what is selling well that day.
The shop I went to yesterday was a different story. The person behind the counter scanned the case to look for what there was the most of, what had not sold well and made the recommondation. Welp at least I knew what to stay away from.
In these cases go for a standard, some thing not too complicated or fancy.
Rollo's in San Jose: mediocre donuts, nothing too special. Like in school, try harder, I know you can do better. A donut on a Sunday morning is more than something to soak up weak coffee.
