My First Iris of the Season by harbie

My First Iris of the Season

This is my first iris to bloom this season. This photo was taken 4 days ago. You ask...what is that white stuff in the background? Yes...it is what it looks like...SNOW!! We hopefully had our last spring snowstorm of the season, 8 in of very wet, heavy snow. The roads were warm so it was mostly on the grass, but it was blowing like crazy. By the end of the next day, it was mostly gone (with a temperature in the 50's). I am counting on this to be the last snow as I have just bought geraniums to plant! Thank you for viewing and putting yesterday's photo on the PP. I so appreciate your views, comments, and faves!!
Well done! The composition is lovely.

Does it often snow in the end of May in your part of the world? Beautiful iris.

The snow really makes the purple pop! This photo makes me happy, I always saw these in my Grandma's back yard 💜

@gijsje They always say here, "You can plant safely after Mother's Day (2nd Sunday in May). This year it wasn't the case! We do occasionally get snow this late but not always. We had a really mild winter with very little snow so even though we are all ready for the snow to be gone, we really needed the moisture to prevent forest fires this summer. We do have strange changeable weather ...that's for sure! :)

@harbie
Here we are supposed to plant safely after Ice saints of Frost saints (11-15 May); that's about the same date, but mostly we plant earlier...

Fabulous image, Harbie! The flower alone is gorgeous and the added snow in the background makes it very special! Fav! :-)

Recognized the white stuff - have a friend out there north of Denver who posted a shot the other day - my response was it was 88 here! Didn't seem to bother your iris though.

Such clarity, and such a "cool" combination of winter and spring. That's Colorado for you; I remember it well.
