Basalt Fire by harbie

Basalt Fire

About a week ago when this photo was taken, the Basalt Fire was 30 percent contained. The ridge below the smoke had all burned and the fire was now heading into the mountains away from the town. There was rain a couple of nights while we were in the cabin, and the fire was then 50% contained. It is even more contained at present. It always makes me sad to see all the destruction. Best on black. Thank You!!
It sounds scary! But a good shot!

Fires make me sad too, yet the forest scientist at the Valle Caldera told us that they are good for the forests.

But taking a long term view, although you see current destruction, new growth will abound in the burn area. I give you Yellowstone 1988, and Mt St Helens.

@byrdlip I know that is true. It is just hard to see so many fires start from people's negligence versus lighting or other natural causes. This one was started by 2 people shooting rifles with tracers.

I hate to see fires too. I hate the destruction and fear for the wildlife. California always seems to have fires going somewhere...so sad. We need to ban the sale of fireworks in the entire state...not just LA County! We are such a dry state to start with. :(
