Hogback by harbie

Hogback

These narrow rock formations are called Hogbacks. My daughter, Annie, who is an Environmental Studies and Geology major at CU Boulder told me that. It is a long narrow ridge with steep equal slopes on each side. You see these in various places throughout Colorado. This is near a very small town in Southeastern Colorado called The Wall because there are a number of these formations nearby. I find them fascinating because they are a relatively thin line of rock. Best on black. Thank you for viewing.
Wonderful pic! I also learned something new!

Yes, I have a photo of a hogback from Canyon de Chelly that our park ranger son interpreted for me. I think that there may also be some leading up to Shiprock, if not Shiprock itself.

At least you don't get confused by people mispronouncing the name, like Flatiron ( Fla-tir-on )
