I walked by the cathedral this morning on my way to work and it was very obvious that a really important person for the city of Aachen had passed away and the services were being held shortly in the Dom. There were about 8 giant flower displays outside from different cities in Germany, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Treir, Monchengladbach, etc. I stopped to get a shot of this large bouqet from the city of Aachen and these two men were walking into the church and really completed the frame.
During some internet searching of the Aachen paper I learned that Professor Irene Ludwig (1927-2010) had passed, the memorial in the paper from the city of Aachen described her as an "honorary citizen and promoter of the Golden Badge of Honour"
She and her late husband promoted the arts in Aachen and literally filled three seperate museums in Aachen with their wonderful collections. Although I knew her name from the names of the museums around town, upon reading about her today I also now know that she will be missed by the city and people of Aachen.
How interesting and how beautifully composed this is. Love the muted colouring and atmosphere. You never know what each day holds for a photo opportunity.
Great photo and story that goes along with it. I will now google her to find out more.
I have a recommendation - if you listen to podcasts I highly recommend downloading TWIP (This Week in Photography) with Fredrick Van Johnson. I have learned so much in the past two months from listening to it.
