Harpur Trust (private) schools have the monopoly on rowing along the river in Bedford and they were out in force today. Strictly speaking it isn't actually the river - we have the Victorians to thank for adding in the ornamental long straight stretch along which we all perambulate of a Sunday afternoon. I digress.
Still nervous about photographing people - and especially school boys in training - I went for the abandoned trainers. Just the one pair put neatly together and set apart from the general muddle of footwear scattered along the water's edge.
PS - last laugh on me. after showing this to my son, his observation was that the tongue of the left trainer wasn't pulled up properly which would have annoyed him. Clearly OCD comes in degrees!
Love the way you focused on the shoes and used brighter colour for them, although there are touches of colour in the rest of the composition. It's a composition which leads one on to wonder where the owners of the shoes are, and thus use one's imagination.
@janemartin thanks for your comment Jane. the fact that these trainers were the only ones paired up and that they were probably placed deliberately apart by someone who needed them that way got me thinking about the owner and his likely character.
@taffy thank you. I shall enjoy following your project. there was only one way to take this photo really but the colouring required some consideration.
@tristansmum Yes I got thinking about the owner too - although I knew they were all in a rowing boat nearby. I just toned the colour down outside of the focussed pair of trainers and stopped when I thought it looked right, Quite liked the touch of colour remaining in the rest. Thanks for your comment.
@onewing Babs yes that is what I wanted to emphasise by bringing out that pair as the main subject. But then again, maybe it is just the one who always does as he is told and has been taught to leave his shoes neatly at home!
@kerosene thank you Caroline. All I can see at present is mundane subjects - must be time for a change of environment. But it is fun making the most of the mundane too.
This is well observed with a good DOF! Photographing people is difficult to begin with. Try looking on the internet to see how other photographers get round the problems!
