wood

Noticing the macro theme of wood, I set out with enthusiasm at lunch time, looking for anything in wood to catch my eye. It wasn't long before I stumbled across this tree stump and got enthusing about the colours and textures.

Some of man's most beautifully crafted objects are in wood, each piece unique and carrying with it years of history. This stump has had no careful crafting but the more I pondered upon it, the more I marvelled at what I saw and at the variety of compositions that presented themselves.

This one, I have picked as it required no editing. Apart from planned crop to square, SOOC.

I'm curious as to whether I should have aimed for more in focus? I cant decide for myself.
Great macro shot. You're right, this stump is rich in texture and character!

You had a very tight focus here but I think it works as the intricate details of the timber are obvious and are repeated!

I love this; the differences nicely accentuate one another, and that one little tool artifact adds such great character.

There's a great many things to hold the interest in this shot, very subtly. I think the focus is just fine.

It's not until you look at rough wood like this that you see all the colours, textures and beauty. Well shot Helen.

@gaylewood Thank you Gayle. I happened upon the same stump yesterday and wondered how I had found so much of interest in it! I think photography is helped along enormously by a bit of good light and imagination.

@flowerfairyann you are so right. I really had to stop and look before deciding there was interest in what I saw. Most of the time, I would have walked straight by this small humble unobtrusive stump.
