OK. So I may just have used all my spare time playing with designing an album cover. I had no new input for today (with the exception of an abstract mundane garlic clove which may yet put in an appearance although I can't say it did much to satisfy me -unlike the winter moussaka that it helped to create )
The results of my Wikipedia random searches were drawn out a few days ago, apologies that I am unable to contextualise them by giving the full quote. But this is what I was working on:
Name of Band: Rally de Portugal
Album Title: Cleaner than the Windshield.
There is a two tone version of one of yesterdays puddle shots in there, and a smidgen of the headlights of a car. Make of it what you will.
ooh now there are few things as pleasing as a successful album cover on a grim old winter's day. i like it. great font and a suitably moody, abstract image for rally de portugal, clearly some kind of edgy band. thanks for reminding me - i must have another go myself
thanks for the contribution, my friend. i really thought you'd forget about me. :-) i would imagine that those copywriters in ad agencies start out with their designs just like this. and in the old days, they of course didn't have internet nor wikipedia but i would imagine they scan the great encyclopedia britannica quite often or a lot! aces!
@helenhall - when i do cover albums, i myself like that the quotes and title i get have some sense in them and i can relate or give further meaning to them. i guess that's how i failed to land a job at an ad agency when i was much much younger. the product has to "speak" to me and if it doesn't, i know I'd come up blank. that's why, as an assistant (or executive secretary in the ancient world), my bosses loved me as i didn't just type and file, i have to understand what i was doing and that's how i know i could do the best i can.
@summerfield I often hang on to these suggested themes waiting for inspiration and the deadlines come and go - but you are admirably persistent in your reminders. I spend too long trying to analyse the meaning and inspiration of album covers and the like, but guess that they bring together what they have to hand in a way that looks convincing and can be linked to the theme.
@pistache thanks for the appreciation of the different elements here.
