Seventy seven

Trying to find naturally occurring examples of red in the countryside! It was this or a faded barn door. Taken on the edge of Chelmorton.
I remember walking through the hills of Grasmere (sp?) and seeing many of the sheep with numbers and colors painted on them. I get that it is an identifier, but why so bold? do they not use the coats to make things with? I know nothing about sheep, so forgive me if I am being ignorant LOL! :)

You have some amazing rainbow shots Helen. I have missed all of these in my poor attention to things...working backwards now. This is so lovely too - the small one sitting down looking so pleased with himself!

Excellent shot for your rainbow theme. I wonder if Mama sheep can read that baby 77 belongs to her.

@marylandgirl58 I know what you mean! I think it's so the farmer can see them on a far-off hillside. Presume the dye can be washed out with a solvent - but I also know very little about sheep

@marylandgirl58 I suspect its water soluble - the blue on her back end would have been quite dark at first
