Wasn't at all sure how to shoot and process this scene to best advantage. Landscape is most definitely not my forte! Any thoughts you may have would be most welcome. Feel free to be brutal! The scene looked so wonderful in real life but this doesn't do it justice. A tad better on black.
It is Reedy Creek Reserve, Agnes Water, Queensland.
Constructive criticism very much appreciated - keen to learn more and improve. I bought a decent camera in February 2016 and joyed this wonderful space...
Did you try it in black and white? Perhaps less for the eye to contend with. I don't know the answer though It does look good like this, but I'm thinking I want to see a greater proportion of the tree trunks, perhaps a portrait shot? Excuse me for just blurting out my first thoughts, which may not even work - truth is, if you hadn't asked I would have just thought - what a lovely photo and aren't those tree trunks astonishing.
I've learned in landscapes that part of what you have to do is help your viewer figure out where our eye is supposed to travel. This shot has great color and texture and repeating trees, but I'm not sure where my eye should land. I do like a lot about the scene - the texture in the trees especially.
@hermann Thank you, Sally. I'm glad you like it. @helenhall Thanks, Helen. I did look at it in b&w but it seemed structure-less because the greenery didn't stand out from the trunks and it all looked a bit of a mess. Maybe including more vertically would have emphasised the height of the trees and improved it. Sadly I can't go back for a retry but next time .... @taffy Ah! I see what you mean. Now that I think about it, my eye is landing on that dark green protrusion about two thirds to the right but really that's not the intention and it's not an interesting or satisfying object in itself. Many thanks for taking the time to feed back. @jamibann We are both more comfortable shooting in cities it seems. @jesperani Thank you, Jennifer.
