This is Mauriora, the second very rare white kiwi to be born at Mt Bruce on her last showing to the public ever before going into the nocturnal hourse, very special to New Zealand
Thanks for the stunning views of that other "Land Down Under" that gets such short shrift because of its bigger neighbor. My son got to visit New Zealand while he was a high school student and brought home a cute stuffed animal Kiwi that I still have some 20 years later. This little guy is adorable. Great photo with the human hand coming out of all that blackness in an open gesture of gentleness paying homage to such a sacred creature.
Oh this is Gorgeous. I recall seeing a Kiwi at Queenstown many years ago and what a special bird. Speaking of special birds, are they Keas on your profile pic?
Hi Jason, thank you. We are so blessed to have two White Kiwi's with us now, they are just beautiful! I always get Keas and Kaka's mixed up as they are very similar, but the ones in my piccie are Kaka's :-) both cheeky parrots!
@helenw2 - While I did see Keas on my one trip to NZ, I am a little disappointed that I saw no Kakas. I was not the bird-nerd that I am now, so I can't imagine how many memory cards of photos I would take if I was to return to NZ. I have family in Christchurch and I should go back to see them, but their lives are a little scattered thanks to the earthquakes.
Oh and if you click on the little blue reply, a name tag like your @helenw2 will appear and as long as you have a space either side of that name tag, a notification will be sent to the intended...
