Old Stables. by hellie

Old Stables.

This is so beautiful. I'm used to stables being constructed of wood, so this seems very fancy to me. The brick, wood of the door and reflection in the windows are all very striking.

@cejaanderson This is in fact the Old stables from the Frothingham estate that was purchased in 1893 to establish the Royal Victoria Hospital. The land and buildings are for the exclusive use of healing and this in perpetuity. The hospital will be decommissioned in April 2015. The last government cleverly thought they could sell it off as condos or something but the last living relative said the legal papers say in perpetuity fof healing.

@cejaanderson I have to look into the Frothingham estate, but there were a bunch of the very, very rich that put together the hospital and grounds. One of the families I noticed just lost a daughter who had lived a lovely but tortured life struggling with mental illness. her obituary was a half a page so i am assuming it is one of the founding families. Scots were very generous. The hospital was founded for all races and creeds. We have an interesting history as the Jewish General was founded to treat Jewish people and allow Jewish doctors to work as they were barred from work in other hospitals.

Those doors are so massive and the wood so rich-toned.
