Just a bit of fun today (actually, just a total lack of inspiration :-)
The red camera is a micro four thirds Panasonic GM5 and the other one is a Canon full frame 6D. Quite a size difference! But the really big saving in size and weight comes when you look at the lenses.
The 2 big lenses are a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm for the Canon camera and the 2 small ones are a 12-32mm (24-64mm full frame equivalent) and a 35-100mm (70-200mm full frame equivalent). The Canon 70-200mm weights 780g and the Panasonic 35-100mm weighs 150g!
Wow! Also a difference in price... I switched from Canon 5Dii to Sony a7iii. From DSLR to system camera, but both full frame, so that same big difference in size and weight, unfortunately.
do you find there is a difference in quality - or is the preference dependent on what photos your taking? I have a micro four thirds too - but not a full frame so am interested.
Big thanks to all of you for your comment on my rather uninspired photo :-)
As for image quality differences between m43 and FF it is not really that big. It depends on what you photograph and how you use your images. The biggest difference will be how the sensors handles noise at higher ISO. Here the FF sensor will be better so if you shoot astro-photography or low light events without flash you are probably better off with a full frame camera. For the rest of us who post on social media or print album sized photos even an m43 camera might be overkill (I have had photos taken with a 12MP point and shoot printed in calendars in A4 size and neither the printers nor the publishers had any problems with that).
The important thing for me is that I can always carry a small m43 camera with me. The FF camera on the other hand mostly sit on the shelf at home...
Just remember my FF camera is an old 20MP Canon. One of the newer FF cameras with 45 or even 60MP will probably resolve a lot more details if you need that :-)
Thank you for the details.
Well, my camera is only 16 MP and i still dream of the day when i get the 20 MP :) so, i am in the kindergarten league... just entered it.
But it is enough for me.
