It snowed again! But, that helped me see this fat cardinal sitting in the trees behind my house. I took this picture through the window and had to zoom in quite a bit, but it still turned out pretty good. I love cardinals, so I was very excited to see him.
You are so lucky to live in a place that has cardinals! What bright. cheery feathered friends they are. Wonderful capture with the red contrasted nicely against the nuetral colored brandches.
Fun facts to know and tell: the cardinal gets its red color from the food it eats. If they're denied access to fruits berries, they'll become drab. (That's rattling around in my brain from something I read pre-internet, but this website bears it out:) http://ithaca.wbu.com/content/show/69491
@twr@susale Thanks! @therubysusan That explains why this one is so bright, my yard is full of berries. @pflaume@seanoneill Wow, really? No cardinals. They are everywhere here in the U.S., even in the winter. They are quite beautiful.
@yaorenliu Yes, they don't fly south in the winter. They are often used on Christmas cards. And, they are the right color! He was one of the brighter ones I've seen in a while.

@daina @linnypinny Thanks! He really stood out, which is why I noticed him so easily.
@sarasdadandmom I just looked out my kitchen window and he was like a beacon of red in a sea of white -- very easy to see! LOL!
