I'm not sure why, but there is no heat in the attic with the furnace (or AC in the summer), so the water in the collection bin froze and water water poured out onto the floor (and froze again). But, not before some dripped through the ceiling into my son's room. Always fun to be woke up at 1 a.m. by "Mom, something is dripping in my room!"
I'm so glad this isn't my house because having this furnace suspended in the attic just creates all kinds of problems. We have mopped up water several times in the past 6 months and the landlord has had someone out to repair a broken pipe twice. And, now we have shoveled ice off the floor. What was the builder thinking when he did this?
I'm no expert, but this furnace set up looks pretty crazy to me! ( I think it's the DIY channel that has a reality show about a master contractor that fixes up houses with major kinds of problems. I wish we could get him to your house right away!) This has got to me a miserable problem to deal with during this cold weather. Only a photo could portray your situation--so, good shots!
@joansmor@homeschoolmom The odd thing about common sense is that it's so uncommon. In our house, which we didn't realize until after we'd bought it, the air intake vents are on or near the floor, and the heat (and of course, now ac since the house has been converted to central heat AND air) are near the ceiling. It's the coldest house I've ever lived in, and I've generally lived in old houses!
@acloserlookpbd It's a very strange set-up. New fangled isn't always better! LOL!
