Fat birdie! by homeschoolmom

Fat birdie!

This bird sat in my trees for a long time this afternoon. I wondered if it was a female about to lay eggs. There were several of them, but this one was huge! Maybe they are building a nest!

Works for the F-Word Challenge, too!
Nice light on the eye!

What a lovely shot of a junco. Kind of early for nesting and babies.

Lovely shot, if it's cold it's probably just fluffed up all it's feathers, it can make them look much larger than normal.. Apart from it being far too early for nesting, you can't tell just by looking that a bird is about to lay, ever seen a chicken that looked pregnant ?

They will poof their feathers up like this to create a thicker layer of insulation to stay warm. Great shot!

@joansmor A junco. Never heard of one. Seemed early for nesting to me, too, but it just seemed so fat! LOL!
@markp LOL! That's a good point! Just never seen a little bird so fat before!
@linnypinny @bristolrose @digitalrn @juliedduncan Thanks!

Dark-eyed Junco. They fluff up a lot in the cold weather. They are mostly ground feeders and like the little yellow seeds at my feeder.
