Just one year ago, we said goodbye to my husband's friend who lost his inner battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The Patriot Guard lead the procession, abugler played Taps, a bagpiper played Amazing Grace then walked off solemnly into the distance, a 21-gun salute was rendered, hand salutes were given and many tears were shed as the old Cavalry officer was laid to rest. Later that day, as we gathered to share memories, we heard the news of the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon. A sad day, all around.
Wonderful tribute Lisa. PTSD is awful. My grandson was attacked when he was 16 and kept prisoner. The police had to use mace to free him. His personality changed overnight. He was diagnosed initially with bi polar but the treatment didn't seem to help. It wasn't until they started treating him FOT PTSD that we slowly saw improvements. Now nearly 22 he seems free of it most of the time but there are still dark edges to his moods. He's never off my prayer list
This would have been such a moving and sad occasion. Fancy the day getting worse with the news of the Boston attacks. Are they stirrups beside the hat?
@ceilidh So sad, I'll add him to my prayer list, too.
@teodw Yes, in the old Cavalry tradition, soldiers in Cav units wear stirrups for formal events, even though Cav now means tanks.
