We picked this house because it was the biggest and fit our needs the best, which is important with 3 kids. We'll still probably end up using part of the garage as storage (my husband's truck probably won't fit into the garage any way), since none of the houses we looked at had basements or attics (only one had an attic, but all the other rooms were too small for our furniture). The owner accepted our offer, so we are on track to sign all the paperwork and move into it in early June.
@annika82 Three times in three years! Let's see, we lived in two places in Germany, before moving to Illinois (we were there almost 18 years with my husband being sent to several different places without us - a school and a 2 deployments), then to Indiana for a year (was supposed to be 3), Boston area for 11 months for a school, now to NC (hopefully for the last 4-6 years until my husband retires).
@ceilidh@swilde Thanks! @terryliv So true! @lafish They only got 6 inches total all winter. And temperatures seldom got below freezing. I freaked out some locals by showing them the 10-foot snow pile in my front yard that didn't melt until a few weeks ago. LOL!
@homeschoolmom oh my, that is a lot. It must be hard to ALWAYS have to adapt to a new Environment or even a new Country and stuff. Did you learn some German whilst you were here ;) ?
@deburahiru Thanks! @annika82 You kind of get used to moving a lot. We look at it as an adventure and an opportunity to see a new part of the country, such as New England this year. We did learn some German. I had 2 semesters of German in college before we went, but my first instructor was a Chinese exchange student who barely spoke English. My husband just picked it up while he was there. He has an ear for languages. I had a better vocabulary, but I had a harder time understanding the accent and speaking back.
@homeschoolmom that's so interesting and a really great way of taking up the challenge. Max i ask what part of Germany you lived in? We do have some crazy accents in the country ;)
@annika82 We spent two years in Aschaffenburg and two in Wuerzburg, both northern Bavaria. We loved it there. It wasn't so much their accent as mine. I don't think my Chinese teacher had an accurate German accent! LOL!
@pixiemac Thanks! We are a family of 5 with a lot of stuff, so we need a big house. The issue we had in NC is that none of the houses had a basement or attic for storage. We may have to sacrifice part of the garage to storage.
Good luck in your new digs Lisa
