March 19-21, 1865, this field in Bentonville, NC, was the site of the last significant battle of the Civil War. Now, it's a beautiful field of wildflowers. Other parts of the battlefield are serene farms of grazing cattle and wheat, cotton and tobacco crops. You might recognize some of the names from this battle: Sherman, Morgan and Bragg (nearby Ft. Bragg is named after the Confederate General). Two counties in NC are named after generals from this battle, Johnston and Hoke.
