Guarded by two giant sentinals

This old house is pretty big. But it looks pretty small next to the giant magnolia trees. These trees are probably near 100 years old and over 4 stories tall. A little further down the street in front of his house was a row of big, old magnolias that I photographed often over the last 4 years. Sadly, they were cut down a few weeks ago. Now that part of the street looks weird.
Why would they take down old trees. I will try to think that they were diseased. It is just too sad when they die. That is a beautiful old home.

@stownsend They were very old and right by the road. They had to be trimmed every year to protect the power lines. I'm thinking they were probably too unstable after years and years of severe trims to the side by the road. The ground is pretty sandy in this area, so trees uproot and fall over easier than they should. When a 4-story tree falls over, it is not a good thing.

@grammyn @randystreat @gardenfolk This is the Blue House, which sits at the top of the main road through the downtown area. It was the doctor's house. Now it's a real estate office. I always thought it looked like it belonged out in the country somewhere instead of in the middle of town.

@homeschoolmom You are right. A friend in Alabama lost a car this year to a tree in his own yard. Sad for the car and the tree.
