Passing down a tradition by homeschoolmom

Passing down a tradition

My Get Pushed partner this week challenged me to photograph 3 people in a family picture. This is a picture of my teenage son, my husband and his father. My father-in-law passed down this hunting rifle to my son, making his Christmas. He built this rifle by hand and used it to hunt with for many years.

While I know many will not like the content of this picture, it is an American tradition, so please only comment on the quality of the photo, not the gun being passed down. Thanks!
@sianipops Here's my get pushed photo for this week of 3 people posed. I hope it isn't too controversial.

What caliber? What power scope and brand? Who made the action? Nice strap on that firearm, I use those also.

It's beautifully sharp Lisa

Tremendous detail and great perspective.

I have seen this getting pushed on the threads. I'd really like to join something. How do you get into this?

Nice keepsake photo!

There is nothing wrong with guns when they are used for their designed purpose. It is man who destroys the fun in things like this

I am sure the safety has been passed down too. Being hand made by the grandfather, is such a wonderful and useful keepsake.Great shot for the album

I love that you took the 3 people and got 3 generations! This is something your son will treasure, how amazing to have a working gun handmade by your grandfather!

@joansmor Joan, go to Discuss, Themes & Competitions, and there should be a thread for Get Pushed, I think we are on #75. Just tell them that you want to join and they will add you next time. We just started on today, so you may have to wait until next week. It's a lot of fun, though.

@chapjohn My father-in-law built it from different parts, including an action from a German Mauser 98. It's a .270 caliber! LOL! I had to ask my sons! I was afraid of getting negative feedback about the gun. I shot of my son at the range got me kicked out of another photo-a-day site last year.

@digitalrn @sarasdadandmom @sianipops Thanks. My two boys were very excited to get these special gifts for Christmas. Now they can't wait to go hunting with their dad.

@homeschoolmom really - kicked off a site! Naive, narrow minded is all I can say, but to each their own. It's lack of teaching responsible habits that causes problems - be it gun use, alcohol, whatever and huge cases of sticking heads in the sand hoping problems will fix themselves. Oh boy, better shut up now or I'll be opening up a can of worms.

Lisa I think this was week 75, if not I've tagged mine wrong.

@homeschoolmom That is hard to accept that you got kicked off a photo sharing site for showing a shooting range. That does not sound like a site you wanted to remain with anyway. You having owned firearms for over 30 some years, none of my firearms have loaded themselves and shot someone.

@homeschoolmom Okay, the next one will be soon enough. I am excited to try something.

@sianipops @chapjohn Yes, the Australians on the page threw a fit about the baby with the gun, until the admin took down my photo. When I asked why she removed me from the page. I couldn't believe it. The photo prompt was "This is important to me...." and I uploaded a picture of my 13-year-old at the range, saying that teaching my children gun safety was important to me. I was pretty shocked. This site is much more supportive and less judgmental. I've not really seen anyone get critical, only offer tips to improve a picture. I like this site a lot better.

@joansmor It's a ton of fun. You will love it.
