@digitalrn Most people think it started from Tony Orlando and Dawn's song "tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree...." but it really started way before that to a song that goes back to at least the Civil War. I remember singing it was a cadence in Basic Training many moons ago. "Around her hair, she wore a yellow ribbon. She wore it in the springtime in the merry month of May. And if you asked her why she wore it, she wore it for her soldier who was far, far away...." I had to write a newspaper article on it once (also many moons ago).
