Beautiful - I love your processing and, of course, the story!

Great idea for the sentiment--the figure holding the flag, Lovely shot Lisa!
(I have a few of these figures and I really love their simplicity).

Beautiful photo and sentiment. The text is hard to read on my monitor- I only noticed "...someone paid" when I read the caption. Reversing the colors might help so the blue was against the brown, or giving the text layers a subtle outer glow to set them apart from the background.

@therubysusan Yes, I thought the same. I put a border around the letters, but didn't like it. I love the glow idea. Now I just have to figure out how to make it do that! LOL!

@homeschoolmom What do you have?
January 23rd, 2014
@homeschoolmom I think I have this figured out. In Photoshop Elements, if you use Simplify Layer, you can no longer edit the text, but you can select the layer with the text on it, go to Layer>Layer Style>Style Settings, check Glow then check Outer, and you can edit the size of the glow and the opacity (but not the color) to make it as pronounced or as subtle as you want.

@homeschoolmom If you want to be able to edit the text, you can use "fx" but you have to take what you get and most of them are pretty gaudy. Oh, and write down what you decide on for the first option so you can repeat it for the second color text, because I can just edit one layer at a time, I don't know how to combine two layers and edit them together.

@therubysusan Thanks, I'll try that, see how it turns out. I usually do these in Picasa and I don't think it allows you to anything too fancy to the text. I'll have to load it into Elements and see what it can do.

@homeschoolmom You nailed the borders! Mine always come out uneven.
