My husband and boys walked out onto the lake today while I was taking pictures. They wanted to drive out onto it, but I didn't think that was a good idea, as this side of the lake was starting to thaw some. But, the ice was thick enough to walk on and do the twist on (yes, my sliding around on the ice doing the twist and when I tried to video it, my camera froze up). Yesterday, they went ice fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee. The ice was still 26 inches thick. They drove a friend's pickup truck out onto the ice, which only requires 8 inches of ice. You can drive a semi-truck on 18 inches of ice. And as you can see, behind them are many trucks, a camper, snow mobiles,....they were even riding dirt bikes on the ice today.
@sarasdadandmom We would have had to find the other way onto the ice to do it, but I was cold and hungry (we had just come from church). Guess you shouldn't teach this kind of stuff to a redneck! LOL!
Great shot. It reminds me that water is the only liquid that freezes from the top instead of the bottom meaning life can exist below the frozen surface. That's something else to thank God for
@ceilidh Thanks. These lakes must be full of fish, because our friend goes ice fishing almost every weekend. Yesterday when my husband and boys went with him, they caught more than 20 fish, brought home 12.
@digitalrn It really made my husband nervous at first, too! LOL! Just not something that would seem logical if you haven't lived in the far north. @swilde Actually, he said most of the lake isn't slippery at all. This edge was slippery because it had melted and refroze many times.
@tremerryn I have never had that happen before either. I actually had to pop the battery out and back in to reset it. I told my husband, it's official. His dancing is so bad, it broke my camera! LOL!
