It certainly looks heavy. The only problem with that is it simply runs off hthe land rather than penetrating it! When we had hot baking summers my first husband who was an avid Gardner always said that we didn't need a series of thundery showers, instead we needed several weeks of light rain to allow the earth to gather full benefit. I fear he was correct! We had torrential rain before leaving an water ran into houses, the library et butte soil under that very top layer was dry. I knw this as I was digging in a peony!
@digitalrn We needed it. @ceilidh Texas is notorious for bad rain storms and flash floods. The clay here seems to soak up the water fairly quickly even when it comes down quickly.
