Bald eagles in the wild! by homeschoolmom

Bald eagles in the wild!

One item on my bucket list is to take a great photo of a bald eagle in the wild. Well, I got some pictures, but they aren't very good, so it remains on my bucket list. But, here's an eagle nest at Jamestown Settlement. I was able to barely see the eagle in the nest. Mostly I saw it moving. You can see it a little in the top right picture. It's the brown thing! The bottom picture was taken over the York River in Yorktown. As we listened to the historical interpreter, a bald eagle swooped down over the river in front of us and snatched a fish, then flew away before I could even turn my camera on. Later that day, I caught this one, but it was so far away, I couldn't get a good picture. But, that's an eagle with a fish in it's talons....I know it looks like a brown speck on the water.
now, if only they wouldn't build their nests so high up.

Just seeing an eagle would be cool.

@francoise I know, right? This nest was near the top of a giant pine tree, probably 70 feet up or more. But, it was all the branches around it that kept me from getting the good picture. This bird picked a spot with good coverage.
@danette It was very cool. We were very excited. Over the course of 3 days, we probably saw at least 5 eagles in the wild, mostly swooping down into the water for food. They are very quick.
