Finishing my grandma's quilt by homeschoolmom

Finishing my grandma's quilt

My maternal grandmother made this sunbonnet sue quilt squares for me when I was born, but she never finished the quilt because her healh started declining. This is why I learned to quilt, so I could finish the quilt she started for me 50 years ago. I have about half of the quilt top finished. I started on it Saturday. I have 16 13-inch squares, like down in the left corner, and 10 10-inch squares, so I put a border around them, like the bottom right and center picture. I now realize that I have inherited my grandmother's ability for precision cutting (or lack of precision in this case). All her squares were hand sewn with tiny little stitches. I'm cheating and using a sewing machine to put them together. But, I haven't decided yet if I'll hand quilt it or not.
What a special treasure this is going to be! And to finish your own baby quilt...amazing. It will be fun to follow your progress.

Can't wait to see your finished quilt! I also have a collection of Sunbonnet Sue quilt blocks in various stages that my maternal grandmother started. Someday . . . only I'm thinking of making them into smaller wall hangings for each of my granddaughters.
