It was very snowy and I didn't travel far from home: thus, this lowly example of something "vertical." Our trash pick-up is handled by the city. They give us three bins: Compostables (the biggest), trash (the smallest), and recycling (mixed glass, metal, and paper.) We drag them out to the street once a week and a truck comes by and empties them. I love the system.
It is nice that you have recycle. We do not have that in our area. We only get one trash bin. Good line up in the snow. I can see why you didn't travel far from home.
We've lived in several places over the last 20 years, and all had different systems. The most bins we had was 4, in Stavanger, Norway. In Manchester we had an open crate for glass, known as the Crate of Shame because ours was always full of wine bottles.
Three bins here: compostables, trash (every two weeks), plastic and tins (once a month).
Our bottles can be delivered in the supermarket and we bring our paper to the village school (once a month).
