cathedral by ingrid2101

cathedral

Taken a couple of weeks ago but after work and cooking I had to go and help paint backdrops for a theatre group so no chance at all to take a photo. This is looking up the front of the St Magnus Cathedral, which was built in 1137 by the Vikings. They weren't a bad bunch really . I liked this shot as it looked like it was a path
the color of the stone is amazing. really like the perspective

@gwhit123 Thanks George - it's red sandstone from one of the other islands, and it is that colour

Lovely colour. You take wonderful photos with your iPhone Ingrid. I will have to use mine more.

Such an unusual shot of the Cathedral, but still so recognisable!

This is such a great perspective! It just seems to vanish to nowhere.... Nice!!

Beautiful color and texture in the bricks. Great perspective. I like the path feel, too.

Hmmm...who knew the Vikings built church's? Not me;-) Nice shot...it is path like, showing the way perhaps?

Nice shot.

The colours are great in this and it looks a little mysterious, not sure where the 'path' is going.

@thirtysevenways Thank you, it gets very frustrating though I am definately thinking of a proper digi camera

@sheilag Thanks Sheila, it was at night and everything else was very poor quality

@annick @gailmmeek @heidit @pflaume @riartisan @3whiteroses @steampowered @kirpppu @abhijit @ouimo @janpenny Thank s for your comments :)

@studiombkcom They were a kind of vicious bunch but they left some pretty amazing buildings -also some graffiti - in runes!

This is amazing, the colour of the stone is superb, and I thought at first it was a pathway too.

Fabulous perspective -- love the way it disappears into black. Amazing to think of how old those stones are...

I'm very partial to this sort of image where it's easy to deceive yourself that what's vertical is in fact horizontal. This looks like a diving board over a void.

@denidouble @wendyhgill Thank you !
@automaticslim That's probably why I like so much of your work - I like your trickery and trying to guess how you've done something!

Ingrid, have you come across @suzannehunt yet? She keeps a rather low profile ... most of the time I'm bowled over by the sheer assurance of her compositional instincts. Anyway, she has a knack for pulling off the horizontal / vertical mindbending trick, usually with architectural subjects: http://365project.org/suzannehunt/365/2012-12-29
but not always: http://365project.org/suzannehunt/365/2013-01-22

@automaticslim Just checked her out - thank you for that, amazing work and I'm looking forward to seeing more of hers

:-) Once in a while Suzanne posts links to videos - if you've any interest in avant garde performance art and music they're *always* worth clicking.
