Got all the chems mixed, coated an off-white cartridge paper and dug out an old negative.
The negative was taken at Leith docks in Edinburgh 27 (!!) years ago. The camera was a Sinar 5x4 field camera - a beauty that could do magic.
This was exposed in a UV unit for 30 mins - could have done with a little longer but it was ok.
I then toned it in cold tea - sometimes cyanotypes are just a bit too much prussian blue.
Expect to see more cyanotypes very soon - I had loads of fun doing it. It's a cheap and easy first step into alternative photography and although I shall be using digital negatives in the future I didn't feel could for film february
Fantastic, do admire you guys using film, don't think I could go back to it now myself, never did get the hang of stops and apertures....or bike gears for that matter. Fav.
@ozziehoffy@elsbels@steampowered Thank you! Paul - I get addicted to this kind of stuff @masosy Thanks Kate I was going 1986 that's 17 years.... yikes!! @studiombkcom@seanoneill Thank you, it is quite time consuming but disgusting weather today so perfect opportunity @aprilmilani Thank You April, it's easy - haven't you done any? Cheap materials and it's developed in water! @denidouble Thank you even a point and shoot film camera is fun :) @michellelittle Thank you! Look forward to seeing some film from you :)
Wonderful work! I have never shot in film (shame) or done any darkroom processing myself and it feels such a big step to take. It is super exciting to see your work and skills!
@heidit cool - coffee sounds good - look forward to seeing that ! @mizhayz Thank you - I had a quick look and saved it - he looks really interesting! @3whiteroses@northy Thank you!
@kirpppu It's not difficult and this is really easy - you don't even need a darkroom - it's an easy affordable step into a very rewarding process
@rennes@3sixty5@masosy Oh thank you for the favs and comments, it really means a lot :) @gwhit123 Thank you George! I like your word - once it's said it automatically becomes real !
This is what I mean when I say that you have to have the right image to process it in an old fashioned way. And you soooo have it here. The image the fab processing and the graininess of it. Fab! fav!
@roadshow Thank you Gloria! @frida Thank you Frida, I've been wanting to use this neg for a while, glad you like it! @cmc1200 Thank you, it is soooo easy - my kids have done them. Cheap as well ! @peterdegraaff You could do this with your eyes shut. 10 x easier than developing b&w !
@chewyteeth Thank you very much Dave, I'm very slow at typing and probably miss bits out, it's just a contact printed cyanotype from a large format negative - then soaked in cold tea. Did a short course in typing at school and very quickly realised I'd never work in an office :)
