Walk this way

Saw these Turnstones while we were walking along the River Mersey this afternoon. There were about a dozen of them and they were just pottering along the prom without taking much notice of people or cyclists.

I was intrigued to find out a bit more about these colourful little birds and discovered that they are just winter visitors and will return to Greenland in Spring. Ah, but they'll be back, they go to the same place every year for their winter break but are not particular about what they eat when they get there. Maybe they're not so different to us humans after all.

Walked 5 miles into Liverpool along the river, saw some amazing rain clouds heading across the river as we got close to the city. Within 2 minutes of sitting down with our coffee in the cafe in town the rain was bouncing off the pavement. Great timing!
I was in town when that rainstorm hit. The tide at the pier head was very high and stormy. Saw a lot of these birds when I lived in Whitstable. They get about!

@crewnelson yes, they're amazing little birds - actually I'm amazed by how far birds travel when they migrate, nature's quite incredible. Hope you managed to stay dry today!
