Not too long ago, my boy Finn asked me if I would still love him when he is dead. I frowned and said, "Of course! .......but I'll be dead long before you, you know?" He paused for thought and then said, "Soooo, will you still love me when you're a zombie?"
Yesterday I was putting sunscreen on them all so they could go swimming. It was Finn's turn and my hand was coated in sunscreen. I gently placed it on his back and when I lifted it, my handprint was left behind. I grabbed my camera, snapped a picture, and then continued to slather him with lotion. As I did, I thought back to the zombie converstaion and then I said a silent prayer that whenever my son, or any of my children, need me, may they always know the gentle but strong feeling of my hand on their backs to help guide them when they are unsure of their direction, to give them strength when they are afraid to go forward, and to give them comfort in the rememberance of my unconditional love for them.
For, I will always be there......even when I am a zombie.
