I misspoke when I said I would post the posed shot of my youngers today...
Lili, my 2nd grader, had a hard time yesterday when it was time to join her classmates in line and head into school for the first day. She didn't cry, but was very clingy and, obviously, did not want to let go...
The place was a zoo with a gazillion parents standing around, waiting to see their kids off to a new school year. I was the crazy mom in the middle of it all who didn't care about the audience I had. I picked my girl up, squeezing her tight and kissing her all over the side of her face...ear...neck... making num, num, num noises like it was the best meal I'd ever had (and it just may have been) until she started giggling. Then I set her down and said, in my best football coach voice, "Now go rock 2nd grade!!!" and slapped her on her behind. She squealed and ran off laughing and calling back, "Love you, mom!!"
I cried all the way home.
After I regained my composure at home, I went about my daily tasks and decided to pull some chicken out from the freezer. When I opened the door, a neatly folded note fell to the floor.
I spent the rest of the day crying some more. I wish I could keep her forever...
@michellelittle - Best wishes to you and your daughter. And I know a virtual stranger will probably not be much help but consider one sent your way... I have 3 years before I make the 3rd journey to see another one off to college... but I get to do kindergarten on Monday... :(
Oh bless, that's such a sweet story, I hope it gets easier for you. Mine starts school in just over a week, I can't imagine what it'll be like at the moment...
