Good morning! In the midst of all this crazy wind, something whipping around a tree caught my eye. Upon closer inspection, I discovered this little guy, who I had never seen before. This, boys and girls, is a Downy Woodpecker. He is actually the smallest species of woodpecker in North America. I refer to him as "he" because he is, indeed, a boy bird. Or, in this case, it would appear that he is a man bird. You see, the ladies are lacking in plumage bling while juvenile males have a red cap and adult males have patch of red on the backs of their heads. I wonder if that is considered male pattern baldness in the woodpecker world...
