Grackles creep me out. Mostly because of their yellow eyes and they way they watch me. But, when the sun hits them "just right", it is like they cast a spell over me and I can't look away. Their iridescence is mesmerizing. I saw this one walking back and forth, in the sun, along my fence. As I was editing this photo, I was disappointed by the focus and was going to trash it but one of my daughters asked me how I made all the colors on his wings. So I showed her the original photos (I only did a tiny amount of brightening in the edited version), told her about the sun, and she was amazed... and now has a watchful eye for grackles in the sun.
@susanalena@thresheg@lynnz@cdonohoue@nicoleterheide@kwind@julzmaioro@eyeamlisa@moominmomma@henrir Thank you for the comments and favs. I hadn't seen one like this before either. I see glimpses of their iridescence when the sun hits them right. But I caught this one at sunrise. Maybe the gold light had something to do with it? As soon as he was in the shade, he was back to a black bird with creepy eyes.
A lovely capture and a nice learning experience for your daughter. I do like it when children pay a bit of attention to nature and not just to their electronic devices.
Always keep what amazes one of your kids.
