I used to sit in my backyard as a child and click my tongue. It would signal the neighborhood squirrel to come and I would hand feed it bread or nuts. As an adult, I don't feel the need to get so up close and personal but I do enjoy building a certain trust with my animal friends. The critters residing in my backyard have grown quite used to me hanging around and will go about their business while allowing me to document with my camera. Every so often, I notice Squiggy returning with nesting material, disappear into the tree, and then leave again. I grab my camera, step outside, and wait along the fence for his return. I've gotten pretty good at timing him and he always stops to make sure it's me before making his way by. This is a better shot than the last Bearded Squirrel photo I posted but I am still not satisfied with it being THE Bearded Squirrel photo I am after. ;)

I can see myself doing exactly what you did. I've never caught a squirrel though with this material in its mouth. One time, however, I did see a squirrel I think hearing a baby in its mouth. It was from a
Your patience and communication with your animals neighbors has been rewarded with the chance to take this amazing up-close picture. That's an interesting collection of bedding he's got in his mouth. I now feel like I've got hair on my tongue!
