I rescued Betty the pigeon from the park. She was hidden away by the pond. A male was doing his courtship display to her but she didn't move away or show any interest. This made me worry so I had a look. It was clear almost straight away that she wasn't well as her beak was open and she had a cruddy eye. She let me touch her which is always worrying so I decided to take her home. After looking properly it became clear she had canker so I definitely did the right thing. Canker is contagious so by excluding her from the flock others won't get sick. She also could have been attacked by something or just got worse and died. She was driven to a wildlife sanctuary where she'll be treated.
