We are having an election here on Feb 26, so all our dull bland politicians have got them selves buffed up, airbrushed and coiffured, and are smiling down from every lamp post like simpletons promising all sorts of inducements that they will never deliver. Walking to work I am exposed to their all seeing mugs begging for my endorsement. The guy on the bottom is our current leader or Taoiseach. our prime minister in other words, Its likely he will retain the post because although he is bland, the other party leaders are several shades more beige...I know we should be grateful that we live in a democratic society and.... I could get off my butt and get involved but I then I could not be a narky cynic. So to mine own self I will be true...
I was in Ireland during the last election, What struck me was the number of posters like this - I sometimes feared that if I stood still too long i would end up as a billboard. On the night of Enda's victory, I was eating in a pub in Ballsbridge when in he walked, with just one friend, no security, no hangers-on, and no hullabaloo. If it was a choice between bland Enda and blingy Blair, I would choose your guy any day.
