B&W Feb 12 I think ...

I was required to provide a passport size photo for my work's personal dept. Why? they said something about needing a laugh. So after a long standoff, today I showered and shaved, put on clean-ish clothes and, well, the glum individual on the right is what a modern digital phone says I look like. On the left is the picture from my first passport . I notice that along with the ear ring, hair and denim jacket, my smile has gone, I could now easily replace the sad face emoji. No matter how I try, the only smile I can muster leaves me looking like an inmate from a high security facility for the insane. It is what it is I suppose...
We were all young once - my hair and smile vanished long ago.

I realised a while ago that Selfies and digital phones should be left to the young ones because for some reason they always malfunction with anyone over 40. Haha

Not a very positive self image! In the netherlands you're not even allowed to smile on a pass photo. No wonder no one smiles anymore.

@graemestevens I am celebrating being old today. Facing mid life crises full in the face and pondering the fickleness of youth. I see that my face too no longer smiles.

@newbank It happens to the best of us

@deborah63 I like your response - nicely said. @graemestevens @newbank @deborah63 @graemestevens Isn't there a saying that 40 is the new 30? or is it 50/60 either way I'm staying 30 for next 30 years and i'm going to love it. I can still see the younger version in you but wiser.

Welcome to the club. Over 40s still smile. We just can't smile at our cell phones because they're just not funny!

Hahahaha in drivers license and passport photos you're supposed to look like a dork or a crim and not smile
I try to always smile....it is good for you

That's the face of a sensitive, thinking man - glad to know you young sir!

How things have changed in our lives, as we are no longer young and technology seems to be made for the young. But it's always great to smile, as it makes people wonder what you are up too. :))

Nice comparison shot. And quite brave, I think. . . .

I need to take some lessons in being the other side of the lens as I can't stand it, and grimaces ensue. Love this comparison you've done. And that young person stepping out into the world :)

Well then show us that insane smile!

Great comparison

Love this! A month or so ago my kids had great fun looking at my old passports. Maybe one day I will be brave enough to post a capture like this. Great idea!

I agree. Don't hold back. This is lovely, but we need to see the insane! Someone recently posted a college photo of me on my Facebook page and it has left me wondering how time slipped by so quickly and yet, I feel quite the same in so many ways! (love this side by side of you and you!)

When you think of it, this is a more accurate depiction of what you'll look like to the passport inspector when you get interrogated by him. No one smiles at those people!

I love that you put up both shots. Did life turn out like you thought it would?

Great comparision, I do see a glint of a smile there, you can't hide it.

a smile is a mask John,
the big difference between the two is in the eyes, your young self was eager for adventure, now you know where that has led you....
