Knock is a small town in Co Mayo on Ireland's west coast, On the evening of Thursday, 21 August 1879, at about 8 o'clock, fifteen people, whose ages ranged from five years to seventy-five and included men, women, teenagers and children, witnessed what they stated was an apparition of Our Lady, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist at the south gable end of the local small parish church, the Church of Saint John the Baptist. I grew up near by and am not sure how I feel about the place, I'm in the live and let live camp,a lot of people find comfort and peace there as well as spend a lot of money. This is the basilica that was built in 1979 for the visit of pope John Paul...
Looks to be a very modern building and an interesting story too. I think I am the live and let live variety too. also I guess I will become a member of the Wheelbarrow Church. I only go when I'm pushed.
@laroque guilty, I bought the body and a 9mm body cap lens for a little more than the 10 with lens. I have an epl5 and a few lenses . I like Olympus , I have an old pen and trip (film ). Have not got to grips with the 9mm yet ...
If i ignore the Celtic cross on the left, then this could be an evangelical church here in the US, big, bold, and in your face! Each to their own I say unless you try to preach to me, then I might have something to say!
great shot John, Many weekends spent here as a child when the whole family made the pilgrimage to knock. i too as an adult have mixed feelings. as a child i used to be so bored and i remember being rewarded with Mary mints for good behaviour lol
