Alcock & Brown crash site color

John Alcock and Arthur Brown made the first non-stop transatlantic flight in June 1919.They flew a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Connemara, where they crash landed after 72 hours in the air.
This is a picture of the crashed plane which is on glass, like a transparency , when you look through you are looking at the scene as it would have been on June 15th 1919. If you need to know more here is a link

Two famous Mancunians, though only Alcock gets onto the list http://www.gutenberg.us/articles/list_of_famous_mancunians , the only Browns appearing being the lead singer of the Stone Roses and a footballer. Nice to know they are still remembered in some corner of a foreign field. Beautifully presented photo.

@laroque You can stay in The Alcock and Brown hotel in Clifden if you ever find yourself in the west of Ireland . It is not one of those new corporate places but a family owned enterprise...
