A few years ago the replica ship, Bounty came into Galway port. It was built in 1962 for the film Mutiny on the Bounty which tells the story of the Mutiny on the Bounty, which starred Marlon Brando as Fletcher Christian who led the Mutiny against Captain Bligh in 1789. At the end of the film the boat was to be burned as the original Bounty was when the mutineers reached Pitcairn Island. Brando thought this perfectly working ship being destroyed was wrong and bought it. for many years it sailed around the world as a sail training vessel until the Captain misjudged the strength of hurricane Sandy in 1912. It sank off the coast of North Carolina .the captain and one crew member were lost, the crew member was Claudene Christian, who claimed to be descended from Fletcher Christian....Will it sail again ? I don't know , but was glad to get the chance to visit it and walk it's decks... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEmZ_A0UTrA
There was another Bounty replica built in 1979 for another film 'The Bounty' filmed in 1984. This replica was built in my hometown (Whangarei, New Zealand) so I got to see that then too. Wonderful old ships.
@dkbarnett with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hoping. Hope that one is still afloat.
